This means making sure that when you are reentering the affected areas, you take measures to make sure no harm comes to you. Double check any structures that you enter to ensure they won’t collapse. If you are unsure, contact local law enforcement for help.
Whether it’s your car, home, RV etc. Make sure you protect it from any further harm. This could mean boarding up windows, removing undamaged items from the home and adding barriers to stop anymore possible water that could get inside.
Speed is the key here, the quicker you report any losses to your insurance company the easier it will be to be reimbursed. Make sure to take photos of the damaged items and save the contact information for your adjuster.
Keep all the receipts for things regarding the storm, you want to detail everything for the insurance company. A big one is emergency living arrangements, if you had to spend a few nights in a hotel, that might be covered under your policy, so keep those receipts!
