This is a bad year for Hurricanes here in Florida, Texas and the Caribbean. We are all in this together and together we will rebuild stronger. After Irma, it’s time to start looking for ways and methods to rebuild our lives and help our neighbors. Not sure where to start? We have put together a quick list to help get you started.

After Irma

Protect Yourself

This means making sure that when you are reentering the affected areas, you take measures to make sure no harm comes to you. Double check any structures that you enter to ensure they won’t collapse. If you are unsure, contact local law enforcement for help.

Protect Your Property

Whether it’s your car, home, RV etc. Make sure you protect it from any further harm. This could mean boarding up windows, removing undamaged items from the home and adding barriers to stop anymore possible water that could get inside.

Report Loss

Speed is the key here, the quicker you report any losses to your insurance company the easier it will be to be reimbursed. Make sure to take photos of the damaged items and save the contact information for your adjuster.

Organize Receipts

Keep all the receipts for things regarding the storm, you want to detail everything for the insurance company. A big one is emergency living arrangements, if you had to spend a few nights in a hotel, that might be covered under your policy, so keep those receipts!

Start The Cleanup

If your home was water damaged, you must be sure to keep that water off your skin. Use the proper cleaning tools and protection, flood water carries a lot of nasty contaminates inside it. If instructed by your insurance company, you may want to hire a professional cleaning company. If you need to store any undamaged items for the during of the cleanup, give us a call and we will set you up with a storage unit.
